VR Project Artist Statement

For this project, I was heavily influenced by the idea of my childhood and the aspects in it that has shaped me into the person that I am today. After hearing that Cartoon Network was bought by Warner Brothers Studios, I remembered those mornings in my youth that I would wake up early enough to watch some of my favorite cartoons with my dad on Cartoon Network or Boomerang and how those shows have lived on through me all these years. I started looking into Cartoon Network “worlds” and remembered that they had set up a huge Cartoon Network playground in the old Atlanta Braves Stadium, Turner Stadium, in my my hometown where kids could enjoy playing while their parents watched the game; I took inspiration from the playground and the characters surrounding the play area, so I wanted to incorporate that into my project. I also wanted it to seem like one was walking throughout a museum of cartoons, so I added a gif of many shows. Through the gifs I was able to add into my code, they portray the many favorites of my childhood. In between the cartoon snippets, was a little buffer screen where I wanted there to be an obvious shift in show but also continue on the cartoon network world, so I added a somewhat checkerboard gif (as checkers and bright colors are very fitting for Cartoon Network). I think there is so much more I could build on for this project, like adding sound (it didn’t work on my code) and also another GLTF (in which it didn’t work also). Since I’m taking this class again, I’m excited to see how much farther I can build onto this project.
